Mission Statement

The Institute of Virology is dedicated to research and teaching in the areas of Virology and Immunology.

Our mission is to:

- gain insight into pathogen-host interactions at all levels - molecular, clinical and immunological; we also commit to advancing animal health by developing novel therapeutic interventions.

- impart a solid scientific basis in Virology and Immunology to students of Veterinary Medicine and other Life Sciences, and to supervise research-based Master and Doctoral projects.

- contribute to animal health by providing a wide range of diagnostic services and by developing novel diagnostic approaches.

We are collaborating with the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO), the Institute of Virology and Immunology (IVI) of the FSVO and the University of Bern, and with colleagues at the Vetsuisse Faculty, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich as well as the ETH Zurich. We are also closely interacting with colleagues at many national and international Universities and Research Institutions.
